Wickshire School

For some mysterious reason, searches for my elementary school in New York, Wickshire School, have jumped to the top of the list as the most commonly used search term used to find my blog. Either somebody's getting nostalgic, or there's a notorious graduate in the news...

Hi! I was searching on Wickshire Elementary tonight but wasn't using the search term to find your blog. The search term led me to stumble onto your blog as it was the first non-classmates.com link in the list. I graduated form Wickshire in 1971 and yes, I guess I was feeling a bit nostalgic when I googled Wickshire. Actually began by searching on a movie character I saw tonight and it turned out he lives in New Hyde Park. That led to a map of New Hyde Park, which led to a search on my old address, which led to a search on Wickshire!

...and so, the mystery continues! This might have been a (slightly older) neighbor!

My Father, Raymond Quick was the Principal of Wickshire Elementary School from its opening until he retired in 1971. My family had many great memories of the school. I would visit classes for the day when my school in Smithtown was out and Wickshire in. I used to ride my dad's rolling chair around the circle until one day we broke the wheels. My dad was so proud of his tenure there.

Of my entire K-12 experience, the only principal I remember is Mr. Quick. He's still a topic of conversation on the Wickshire page on Facebook...I guess some people make a (positive) lasting expression!

My mother, Lee Ross, was a gym teacher at Wickshire in the 60s. Mr. Quick was the principal then--I remember him well. And I too would go to Wickshire when my school, Parkville in New Hyde Park, was on vacation!!! Loved that place.

Thanks for the comment - I'm still fascinated at the "life after death" Wickshire seems to have online...there seems to be a great deal of nostalgia for our brief home-away-from-home....

My name was Lisa De Domenico when I went to Wickshire back in 1968 to 1969, and I remember it so well, but now I find that I'm unable to even find it on the internet.
That really sucks, cos I did like going there, and I was 11 yrs old at the time, too.
After that school, I went to Herricks school in 1969 to 1973.

Hi, Lisa -
There isn't too much online about Wickshire, but there is at least one place you might find interesting:

Facebook has a Wickshire-related page- not very active, of course, but you might find some familiar names and memories:

For some reason I decided to google Wickshire tonight and came across this page. Mrs. Ross was my gym teacher, Mr. Quick the principal...other teachers I had were the beautiful Miss Ponti, Mrs. Pilipshen, Miss Hahn, Miss Presti, Mr. Milgram, Miss Tocci.....we lived just a block away from the school so it's presence permeated our days.
